    A Closed Door

A Closed Door CoverOutted at thirteen, Orin Merritt left home after high school hoping to escape the hell his life had become. Ten years later when a tornado destroys his childhood home and kills his parents, Orin finds himself in an entirely new nightmare. One he can’t run away from.

Blaming himself for failing the two people who always loved and supported him, he returns home and confronts his past in the person of his one-time best friend, Thomas Kennett.  Thomas not only rejected him when Orin came out, he led the group that tormented Orin into leaving.

As he struggles to deal with his grief, Orin also labors to fulfill the pledge he made to his parents before their death.  In the process, Orin learns that sometimes when you go away to find yourself, you leave the answers you’re looking for behind.

When they were teens, Castor McCormick was the bane of Blake Kowalski’s existence. Their mutual animosity led to summers filled with rivalry. Now, nearly two decades later, Cas is moving back into the neighborhood to live in his grandmother’s old house. Blake tells himself he isn’t interested in seeing how snarky little Cas grew up, but when his mother dupes him into visiting his former nemesis, he finds out “pretty” can evolve into “sexy as hell” on the right man. • GRL ’14 – Odds and Ends

I suspect most everyone who reads my blog knows I’ll be going to GRL (Gay Rom Lit) this year in Chicago as a Supporting Author. [That’s a fancy phrase for ‘relatively new author.] (Sorry, Fancy Nancy is ‘lil q’s new favorite and we say ‘that’s a fancy word for’ a lot these days as we try to expand her vocabulary)  Whew, talk about a digression, where was I? Oh yeah, GRL ’14 updates. Focus.

First, I was asked to be an “Honorary” member Team Prism’ Countdown to GRL ’14. Sounds glamorous, no? So of course I said yes. Turns out the honor really is all mine.  I get to run the anchor leg of their GRL Author Flash Fiction countdown.  So tomorrow my little story based on the picture prompt will be on the Prism Book Alliance Site.  I’ll post a link tomorrow, but here’s a link to the Prism Book Alliance site so you can check out the other pieces now if you like:

Now a couple other odds and ends:

I’ve spent the spring and summer wondered what to expect and more importantly what to bring. The dreaded “S” word—swag—has been on my mind since almost the moment I received confirmation that I snagged a Supporting Author slot.  After numerous conversations with fellow authors, people who’ve attended past GRLs as either an author or a reader (or both), I cobbled together a few things to bring. One hopes I did good. (more…)

‘lil q turned three recently. (not saying what day-sorry) She had her birthday party at a bouncy house as she called it.  The day after we had the family party.  Here are some shots from both.

And a video for good measure.  Do you think we put on a bit too many pads??

  • Stranded: A Wayward Ink Anthology- New Release and Giveaway

Please Check out this new anthology from Wayward Ink Publishing.  It has stories from several of my friends (I’d name names, but if I forgot someone they’d be put off).  And make sure to read to the end so you can enter the contest Wayward is hold to celebrate it’s newest release.

    Definition: Stranded

    adjective

    • (of a boat, sailor, or sea creature) left aground on a shore.

    ‘a stranded whale’

    • left without the means to move from somewhere.

‘he offers a lift to a stranded commuter’

The boys in this collection of short stories have most definitely been left STRANDED!

    They’ve been shipwrecked and abandoned.

    Marooned and cast away.

And left helpless and high and dry.

But you should never underestimate the tenacity of the human heart.

  • Release Day! A Closed Door

    Facebook-banner-AClosedDoor

New Release: A Closed Door, by Andrew Q. Gordon

So it’s been a hot minute since my last ‘release’ day. And while this is just a short story, it’s my first contemporary story that’s been published.  I need to do a few more of these as I liked very much doing something without the fantasy/paranormal world building.

I hope folks like it and if you do, please drop me a note here, on Goodreads or on Amazaon. (more…)
