  • Ashes of Life – My DRitC Entry – With Cover Reveal and Sneak Peek

Every year, the Goodreads MM Romance group does an event that gets authors to write stories based on the suggestions of readers.  [If you’re not a member of the group, here’s the link to sign up – it’s free.  Goodreads MM Romance Group]  The event is call Don’t Read in the Closet (DRitC).  For those not familiar with it, the reader writes a ‘Dear Author’ letter. They provide a picture and what they see in the picture.  Based on those two things, the author that claims the prompt writes ‘that story.’  The MM Group then compiles these stories, and posts them over a three month period. [There were 200 prompts this year so do NOT ask me how they manage to collect, format, and post these, but they do.]  They also group the stories into anthologies after all the stories are posted. The stories are free to read on their website: M/M Romance Group. You can also downland them for free in ePub, Mobi or PDF formats. (more…)

  • New Release: Heart Knot Mine: By Lily Velden

    HeartKnotMine_FBbanner_DSP

Lily’s been a bit busy with some new things she’s doing so she didn’t stop by to promote her new book – [insert really sad face here]

But that won’t stop me from giving it a bit of a plug.  Heart Knot Mine is a really good book. I’d recommend it to everyone.   (more…)

  • Guest Post – Elizabeth Noble – All Those Ideas

Today is something of a special day – or as I’ve been referring to it lately, an international day of mourning.  It’s my birthday – my fiftieth birthday – the big Five O.  But let’s not dwell on that.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Elizabeth about a year ago and she’s been a guest on my blog before.  One thing I’ve learned about Elizabeth – she always has something interesting to say.  So with that, she’s here to talk about idea and her newest book, Electric Candle.

    All Those Ideas

A question often asked by non-writers is: Where do you get your ideas? I’m sure I’m not alone amongst writers who are asked that question, and asked often.

Well, let me try to explain different ways it can happen for me. (more…)

  • Easter ’14

We’re almost to the point where ‘lil q is hip to all the holidays.  Despite mentioning it several time that the Easter Bunny was coming today, he needed a bit of prompting to remember.  But once she did, she was all into it. So after getting up we put on our bunny ears (that didn’t even make it down the stairs before they fell off) and down to look for our basket, then breakfast. (Yes, I let her have chocolate before we ate, I’m not a total ogre. )

Grandma sent her a basket of goodies that we opened and no shock this was her favorite.

We’re off to here other grandma’s today, so more pictures tomorrow. (more…)

  • A Month of Pictures

I should be writing – I’ve got some quiet time after all – but instead I’m going over pictures.  And since technically the captions count as writing, I figured I’d do this instead this morning. 🙂

Okay – I might have over done it, but I had a lot of good stuff to work with.

Debbie McGowan, author, editor and publisher of Beaten Track Publishing agree to act as a moderator. Today is Part II  Below is a snippet from the conversation, but be sure to click on the link to Deb’s site and enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post. DM: Welcome back gentlemen. Let’s just dive in and pick up where we left off, shall we?

What’s your approach to writing sex?

WSL: The sex scenes should propel the story, involve the characters at that moment. That’s the only reason to include it. If the sex doesn’t add to the plot then don’t add it.  (more…)

DM: In your books, do you have on/off page sex? Why?

WSL: In my book, Love and Murder, and, in another work in progress, the sex is on the page. I don’t think gay men should be ashamed to have sex explored on page as long as, in my opinion, the sex adds to the story and sex depicted involves consenting men. If the book is coming of age, or coming out, then it’s probably more age appropriate not to depict sex on the page. It really depends on the target audience your book or story is designed. (more…)

  • Snow Day – Part -Um. . . . I’ve Lost Count

So DC had another snow day – at least the last few have been legit – we got about 8 inches of snow over night and it snowed up until about 2 pm on and off. But it’s stunning that it went from 60+ to snowing in less than 36 hours.  Here’s a shot from Saturday that grandma took.

    With 'lil e

Snow days sure ain’t what they used to be when we were childless. Trying to find ways to entertain ‘lil q is getting harder as she gets older. She’s in that in between window where we can’t just let her play by herself just yet. We’re getting closer, but we’re not there yet. (more…)

  • Family Vacation – II

I think I read that if you do some thing three times it becomes a habit.  Using that as a yardstick, I guess if you go some where on vacation three years in a row it’s a tradition? Last year we rented a house at the beach so we could all – even Emma our dog – could go.  This year we rented the same place.  So that make us two-thirds of the way to a tradition I suppose. (more…)
