    Blurb:

KL_FleshMarketSpecial Agent Leo Gale is up a creek. A year and a half of deep cover is about to go up in flames. He needs help – something, someone to salvage the operation and save the lives of untold numbers of trafficked teenagers.

But he wasn’t expecting the partner they sent, or his own gut-punch of a response to the man.

Julian worked hard for that FBI Honors Internship. It was supposed to be a foot in the door. He’d never expected it to catapult him into the middle of a major undercover operation. Yet here he is, sleeping on a filthy mattress and using every trick in the book to avoid torture—and worse. He’s never felt so scared, or so alive, in his entire life, and he’s not sure if it’s the danger, or Leo, that’s making his heart race.

There’s no time to think about it, though. The operation is heating up, and Leo and Julian are running out of time and options. As choices become more difficult, they must find a way to take the traffickers down, or risk becoming just another set of organs for sale.

Long Haul; by Michael P. Thomas—Blog Tour and Giveaway

Please welcome Michael P. Thomas as he discusses himself and his books.

An Interview With Michael P. Thomas

How long have you been writing?

I wrote my first “novel” when I was in the eighth grade. It’s a 32-page crime caper starring my two favorite characters, Stacey and Dolores, who I just knew were going to make me famous. They’re described as “roommates,” but really it was probably my first foray into LGBT fiction, too. After high school I took something of a hiatus from creative writing which lasted until NaNoWriMo in 2006, which eventually resulted in my first actual novel.

What was your first book you had published?

JMS Books published my first book, Kiss Me, Straight, also about flight attendants, in 2012. I had had a few pieces in anthologies—some erotica under a pen name—but this was my first stand-alone title.

Let’s talk Mile High Club. What this series about?

After almost twenty years of flying, I started to think about writing a memoir. Like anybody who’s worked with the public, I have some pretty good stories, but I didn’t like the idea of just complaining about jerks for 200 pages. (Not that I couldn’t…) It occurred to me that a series about flight attendants would be a great opportunity to explore friendship, love, and sex, as I love to do, and still have a place for the flying stories that are worth telling. I have a vital and hilarious network of flight attendant friends-who-are-family in my life, and this series celebrates relationships like these, as enjoyed by sexier people than we are.

In a nutshell, it’s a series about a little group of friends who work for a budget airline, the people they fall in love with, and the Sundays they spend standing around drinking beer.

First Flight Out is the first book in the series. Talk about that first.

This story opens with a quasi-medical incident on a plane that closely mirrors something that happened on one of my flights when I was based in San Francisco. In real life, the doctor who stepped up to help the crew was spectacularly handsome, and Jesse’s relationship with Willis, which is the foundation of this story, is basically a What if…? Jesse surprised me by becoming one of my favorite characters to write. I have promised my friend Susan an F/F for the third installment, after which I’d like to check in with Jesse again.

Long Haul, is book two. I love that it deals with such a timely issue. How did you get the book written, edited and published so quickly?

I knew that I wanted to write the second book about Tanner and Clark. I tried to write their story in April, but 19,000 words in, they were still “just” friends. I was having a hard time getting them together, and was thrilled to jump at legal marriage as the chance to do it. I knew them quite well by the time I started working on this so the story flowed with relative ease. The team at JMS Books is incredibly supportive, and they were onboard for a get-it-while-it’s-hot timeline. My editor and I enjoy working with each other, so it just kind of came together.

Introduce us to your main characters, Tanner and Clark.

They’re both flight attendants. For Tanner, flying is definitely a career. It’s an easy job with good benefits that pays better than anything else he’d be able to go do without going back to school. And he flies with his best friend Jesse almost all the time; what’s not to like? Clark sees flying as more of a foot in the door. His mom is an ex-Eastern flight attendant and he’s always wanted into the airline industry, but he’s more of a go-getter type with his eye on a downtown office. Tanner’s ten years older and kind of takes things as they come (his own impromptu wedding, for example); Clark is 23 and likes to have a plan. They explore an undeniable physical attraction in Book 1. This story’s about whether that foundation is one they can build on—and ultimately, if they even want to.

Will there be more adventures in this series?

Definitely. Book 3 will focus on Ernie, Tanner’s lesbian roommate, and I feel like Tanner and Clark might require some follow-up. I’m rooting for their marriage, but I’m not making any promises. Also, there’s a deep background character in their bar life I really want to get to know; he might get a spin-off. The Beer Bust Boys? Tanner and Jesse can drop in, like when the Fonz visited Laverne and Shirley.

Tell us something interesting that is not in the blurb?

On their first night together at Tanner’s house, Tanner’s landlord almost burns it down.

Since there is always another story to tell, what are you working on now?

It’s November, so I’m madly NaNo-ing. I’m 900 words into this year’s novel, and the main character is waking up after a huge night out. He hears the toilet flush and has no idea who he brought home from the bar. We’ll find out tomorrow!

I’m also working with my editor, I have two Christmas stories coming out in December.

If you could meet any writer, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Probably Michael Chabon. I’ve had a mad crush on him since I read The Mysteries of Pittsburgh right out of its covers when I was in college. He’s terribly handsome, and a brilliant writer—imaginative, sensitive, funny, and sharp. Just a couple weeks ago I bought a collection of short stories specifically because it was curated by him and I’d love to know what he likes to read, which is kind of the used-bookstore answer to this question.

Besides reading and writing, what else do you enjoy?

I’m an inveterate traveler. Although I read and write a lot when I’m traveling—one of my favorite things to do in new cities is go to book stores—so I’m not sure that counts as a separate answer. I’m a mad crafter, especially with supplies (see above) from foreign bookstores. I love to fool around with watercolors, I study and read the tarot, and I spend an inordinate amount of my free time going places to have coffee.

The last question is all yours. Tell the readers anything you like about you, your works, things you like. Anything at all.

The first time I visited Paris, I hated it. When I’m boy-watching, I’m especially drawn to the very thin and the very fat, the very tall and the very short. Of the books I have written so far, my favorite can never be published. And I love doing interviews, so thank you!

Series: The Mile High Club, Book Two

First Flight Out CoverFlight attendant Tanner Bradac and his occasional make-out buddy Clark Arnold find themselves on a layover in San Francisco on the day the U.S. Supreme Court legalizes same-sex marriage. Tanner is as happy about the ruling as any of his Facebook friends rainbowing up their profile pictures, it just doesn’t affect him personally—he doesn’t even have a boyfriend. Color him surprised, then, when he and Clark get caught up in the celebratory spirit of the day and return home as lawfully wedded husbands.

The wedding may have been a last-minute light-hearted lark, but Tanner and Clark are willing to give marriage a go. Tanner loves Clark—at least, he really wants to love Clark—and he figures the rest should just fall into place. How hard can being married to a guy you barely know really be?

Short Blurb: On the day the Supreme Court legalizes same-sex marriage, Tanner Bradac doesn’t even have a boyfriend, so you can imagine his surprise when he and his buddy Clark get carried away by the celebratory spirit of the day and wind up lawfully wedded husbands. Blurb: It’s hard enough being gay in high school, but Fay must also deal with hiding his magical ability—powers he barely understands and cannot possibly reveal. His best friend Sam is his only confidante, and even with her help, Fay’s life is barely tolerable.

Everything changes when Janus University, a college for individuals with magical capabilities, discovers the pair. When the university sends a student to test them, Fay and Sam, along with their classmate Tyler, are catapulted headfirst into a world of unimaginable danger and magic. Fay and Tyler begin to see each other as more than friends while they prepare for the Trials, the university’s deadly acceptance process. For the first time, the three friends experience firsthand how wonderful and terrible a world with magic can be, especially when the source of Fay’s power turns out to be far deadlier than anyone imagined.

    Excerpt

“Anyway, you wanna head in?” Tyler asked. “I already picked up supplies. I just need to bring them in to the kitchen.”

    “Uhh, sure. I’ll help.”

We grabbed the basic supplies necessary to make a mountain of bread and different kinds of pastries and candies. According to the Baí Zé, the sidhé loved sweet things that had heart in them. The sidhé were like that aunt who insisted love was why her cookies always tasted so good. And, as it turned out, Tyler used to love making cookies and other treats with his mom whenever he was feeling down. He admitted to me blushingly that they still did sometimes. I tried not to let my melted heart trickle too far away, but it was a difficult battle.

I would only be watching him bake for the most part anyway. The sidhé apparently also really liked baubles and shiny things. Most of them were essentially like immortal children, too young to really understand the ethics of a situation, the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. I was going to try to make ice that wouldn’t melt for days, which would hopefully shine enough in the light to gather the attention of the friendly ones. I wasn’t sure how I knew how to make them, but I just… had a feeling about it.

While Tyler started making the most amazing smells waft from the oven, I tried to focus. The problem was that it was really hard to focus when the guy you’re crushing on was bending over with an apron and oven mitts on. I was torn between ogling his ass and cooing at the sweetness of a jock baking, and there wasn’t much left of my mind to try and work magic. I made a strangled noise of protest and went off to his house’s massive backyard to give it another go.

There was an ornate birdbath in his backyard, so I ambled over to it. Score. It was full of clean water, by the looks of it. I held my right hand over it and bore down on the image in my mind. The water cooled rapidly, and a large swirl of compacting snow and ice floated in front of me. I closed my eyes slowly, and when I opened them, it looked all the world like a massive diamond was hanging in the air in front of me, its facets gleaming in the sunlight. Staring at it closely, it also seemed to give off a pale blue glow. Somehow, I was sure that it would at least last through the night. I repeated the process several more times, and soon I was left with a cluster of large, glowing faux gemstones. I was pretty impressed with myself. The whole thing hadn’t taken more than a few minutes.

I headed back inside to see if Tyler needed any help. He was in the process of preparing a second sheet of cookies, so I was, in fact, useful. I molded the cookies into whatever shapes I was feeling at the moment. I was especially proud of my snowflake cookie, which I was sure would look amazing as well as taste delicious when it was done. Tyler looked at my efforts, and then let out a short huff of amusement. He didn’t say anything, though. When we took that tray out, though, I saw why. My beautiful efforts had been utterly ruined when the cookies expanded from the heat. I took out my poor blob of a snowflake cookie, devastated.

“Good-bye, poor snowflake cookie. You will be mourned.”

    AboutTheAuthor

Tom Early is currently a student at Tufts University who probably spends more time than is wise reading and writing instead of studying. More often than not, he can be found wrapped in a blanket on the couch forgetting most of the things he was supposed to do that day.

When not writing, Tom can be found either reading, gaming, drawing, scratching his dog, or bothering his friends. He also frequently forgets that it’s healthy to get more than six hours of sleep a night, and firmly believes that treating coffee as the most important food group makes up for this. If you show him a picture of your dog, he will probably make embarrassingly happy noises and then brag about his own dog. He’s always happy to talk about any of his previous or current writing projects, because people asking him about them reminds him that he should really be writing right now.

    Excerpt:

Veering to the left, I allowed myself a quick glance over my shoulder. Not that I saw any chance of the elgoth having lost interest in me, because those fucking beasts never lost interest once they’d set their sights on prey, but sometimes a new prey might attract them more, which I’d have welcomed right then.

My lungs burned and my leg muscles smarted like hell from running like a rabbit through thick brushes and overgrown ferns. I even zigzagged around. Too bad I couldn’t find a rabbit’s hole to hide in.

I had no idea where Tom, Carson, and the rest of the team were, either.

We’d been separated before—it happened when gigantic Tash’Ba war beasts decided we looked good enough to eat—but I’ve never liked it. No, scratch that. Every time it happened, it put the fear of God in me. A gust of warm breath, mingled with some spittle, sprayed my neck. I squeaked and swerved to the right, vaulting over a stunted tree trunk. Seconds later, wood splinters sped past my head, and I lost my footing on the vibrating ground.

I sprawled facedown in the mud, panic sending bolts of confusing messages through my body. Maybe… maybe if I kept completely still, the elgoth wouldn’t touch me? The first time I’d made the acquaintance of one of these towering forty-foot-tall creatures, Tom had instructed me not to move, because they wouldn’t be able to locate us.

It had worked on Ligador and a couple of other breeding stations, but last time a team member tried this approach, the elgoth had roared and ripped him apart. All Tash’Ba war beasts seemed to be altering their tactics, making them even more unpredictable than before.

The mud around me sloshed, almost causing me to inhale some of it. I suppressed the urge to cough and kept my mouth shut as tight as I’d ever done, even though a whimper threatened to spill over my lips any second.

Another gust of foul breath struck my neck. My hair stood on end, my muscles locked in some kind of rigid stupor. That was it. I’d end my life as a morsel for an elgoth.

A blast echoed from the south, and the beast’s breath vanished from my neck. Gunfire followed the blast, and voices filtered through my terrified haze. They’d run right into the elgoth if I didn’t warn them. But… if I moved, or raised my voice, the elgoth would bite my head off. Literally.

    About the author

R.J. Jones started as a reader and eventually made the progression to reviewing. It wasnít until two men popped into her thoughts, insisting on telling her their story that she started to write.

It started with one scene. A hot and dirty one in the showerÖ

R.J.ís initial thought was if she could write their scene then theyíd shut up and allow her to concentrate on other aspects of her day. Not so. That shower scene ended up being 3000 words long and three hours of work.  And still, they didnít shut up.  They told her their entire story and she didnít sleep for days. Sometimes she couldnít keep up with what they were telling her and she had to keep a notebook by her bed.

Whilst she was writing their story a side character decided he needed his story told too. Then other characters followed suit.

You see the problem? If she ever wants to sleep again then she needs to write.

R.J. is a wife and a mother to two boys. She is surrounded by males. Even her dog is a boy.
