Ashes of Life – My DRitC Entry – With Cover Reveal and Sneak Peek

Every year, the Goodreads MM Romance group does an event that gets authors to write stories based on the suggestions of readers.  [If you’re not a member of the group, here’s the link to sign up – it’s free.  Goodreads MM Romance Group]  The event is call Don’t Read in the Closet (DRitC).  For those not familiar with it, the reader writes a ‘Dear Author’ letter. They provide a picture and what they see in the picture.  Based on those two things, the author that claims the prompt writes ‘that story.’  The MM Group then compiles these stories, and posts them over a three month period. [There were 200 prompts this year so do NOT ask me how they manage …

New Visuals

As I grow as an author, I feel I’m learning more about how to be ‘marketer’ (not that I’m not learning more every day about how to be a better author, but my ‘marketing skills’ were/are so woeful that I have sooo much to learn).  But thanks to the web and some very smart – and generous -people, I’ve learned a few important things. Perhaps one of the most important is that visuals are really helpful. It’s easier to catch someone’s eye with a picture, video, drawing, graphic, etc, than it is with just text. I’d kinda known that – hence the pictures everywhere, –  but then someone took it a step further and said, I – not me per se, …

4.5 out of 5 stars to (Un)Masked by Andrew Q. Gordon

Nice reviews are great, but they’re even better when someone discovers one of your earlier books and ends up really enjoying it. This made both Anyta and I smile. 🙂

Book Two Of – ‘Champion of the The Gods- – Is Done

Kinda. Sorta. Maybe. Hopefully? So After many months of start and stop, of rewriting while trying to keep the story intact, I’ve finished the rough draft of Book 2 – The Eye And The Arm. Those who’ve followed my blog know I struggled with this. Not because I didn’t have the story set, but because I had to make the story fit within a word limit. I’m having second thoughts now.  Overall, I feel the Champions series is good – dare I say very good, though I know the hubris of saying that.  My issue is I wanted it to be a bit more epic. Nendor has three main continents – Ardus, Laudria & Erd.  My goal was to make each …

November Update

NaNoWriMo has been interesting. Much like a lot of things, November started with a surge – the first 12 days I averaged almost 2000 words a day.  The last five I’ve done less than 800 a day.  That said, I’m hoping to get to that 50K mark by the end of the month.  Not sure it will be done at 50k – doubtful really – but at least I can say I made the 50K threshold.  If I do make it, I’ll have written almost  double the number of words in one month that I managed in the six prior, so no matter what the result, it will have been a good exercise.  I’ve got an updater on the right …

Brunch With Friends

Today was the monthly DC Area MM Romance Group lunch meet up that Joyfully Jay helps organize. The meet up which brings together readers and writers in the DC Metro area. [Though I’m sure anyone from somewhere else who wanted to come would be welcome.]  Today the venue was Freddie’s Beach Bar in Arlington VA. Since I used to be neighbors with Freddie, who owns his name sake, today was a do not miss for me and ‘lil q. Aside from ‘lil q being a bit fussy at times – not really her fault, we had swim class right before, so she was tired – the day was outstanding.  ‘lil q had competition/company in the baby department as Bella Leone brought her …

WIP Updates

It’s been a while since I’ve done any kind of update and since I’ve had a few questions recently about the sequel to The Last Grand Master, I figured I’d post something. My goal is to try to do these once a month, so if you’re interested, keep an eye out. The Eye and the Arm – Champion Of The Gods Book 2: This one has bedeviled me some.  When I originally wrote COTG it was going to be a 4 books series.  The original Books 2-4 were about 550K words unedited so they would roughly end up between 300-350 words.  But those are not the appropriate numbers in the publishing world I’ve learned. 120K is about the max a …

Spent The Day at DC OutWrite LGBT Book Festival

Everyone has to start somewhere, so today was the first book festival I attended as an author – remind me when I introduce myself not to use my real name. DOH!  Several other authors who’s book are published by Dreamspinner Press were also there; Shira Anthony, Marguerite Labbe, Ken Murphy and H. B. Pattskyn.
